First Caperton found in 1432 in Scotland

The first Caperton is found in the 1400's in Scotland. I found him here.
www.british-history.as.uk/   There are 3 references for the name Caperton in the document... Rymer's Foedera with Syllabus: January-June 1432, Volume 10 page 499 to 514.

Capsulating the story.....In 1432, the lord of Caperton was involved with the men who participated in the effort to free the Scots from England.  He, along with other men, was imprisoned in Sterling Castle as a hostage.  I at first thought they were imprisoned in Tower of London, but after consulting the book,"Tower of London Prisoner Book", the following names were not there.  The only other active prison was at Sterling Castle. Adam was a hostage for Willielmo de Douglas, also spelled Willielmus de Douglas.  Other names prominent in the document are Walys or Waleys (Wallace), Stewart, Hay, Sterling, all big names in the Scottish Rebellion.   On the Caperton side of being hostages, the Erskyn name is noted.  Erskine being a family name in the Caperton genealogy in Monroe county, Virginia in about 1780.

The full title of this lord was Adam de Conyngham de Caperton.  That is how it is spelled in the document in 1432.  The meaning of this title could be ......  Adam son of Cunningham of Caperton,  or the name of the Cunningham castle today is Caprington....so Adam of Cunningham of Caprington.  I have found a town in Scotland where there is a Caprington castle still existing today as the family home of the Cunninghams.  Would be interesting if I could get a Cunningham to DNA test to see how they compare to Caperton in the USA.  After leaving this post I went to FamilytreeDNA.com and found that in fact the Cunninghams have a DNA project and they do not match the Caperton DNA.  So who was in the castle before the Cunninghams?  Was it the Wallace's castle?

This Caprington Castle is located near to the Douglas and Sterling Castle.

In 1425 Caprington Castle was given to Adam Cunyngham as a result of his marriage to Sir Duncan Wallace's daughter.

So this begs the question, Where did Caprington Castle get its' name?  Spelled Caprounton, Caperton, Caprinton at different times.
